This is an easy how-to for changing the oil in your motorcycle! Shown is my 2014 Yamaha FJR 1300 ES but most of what I cover applies to all bikes. Doing your own work especially fluid changes, is especially easy to do. There’s little reason to waste big bucks taking your bike in to a dealer to have them do this stuff, seriously. It can be a little scary if you have never done it, especially if you have a dealer who tries pressure tactics but it’s all BS. Once you acquire the few tools you need you’ll be wishing you started doing your own work years ago. You not only save money and time but you KNOW the job is done right. To do this change you need the appropriate amount of new oil – consult your owner’s or service manual. A new filter and either a new crush washer or a reusable copper washer. I use a long skinny funnel and you’ll need a filter wrench. Which type depends on your bike, there are many ways to get a filter off. I use a little aluminum foil to keep the mess away, disposable gloves to keep it off me, and simple tools. Which ones you need will depend on your bike but none are a big deal.
