Route 74 between San Juan Capistrano and Lake Elsinore, due to its twisty roads and high traffic volume, holds an ominous claim to fame as one of the most dangerous highways in the California. On August 11, 1930, CA SR 74 was officially named the Pines to Palms Highway.
