Ortega Highway Aug 2016

by admin, August 16, 2016

Ortega Hwy (aka Pines to Palms Hwy, Rt 74) is likely one of the best, if not the most well known moto ride in Southern California. As the gateway ride to the Eastern mountains and canyons, Ortega Hwy starts in San Juan Capistrano and continues to Palm Desert (115 mi); a moto favorite frequented by thousands of kneedraggers, curisers, sport touring and cagers daily as a scenic byway with great twisties, scenic stops and 2 roadhouses.

As well, Ortega Hwy has the reputation of being one of California’s most deadly highways, especially for motorcyclists. With hairpin turns, open stretches, beautiful mountain scenery and famous watering holes, the highway is an attraction for motorcyclists with deadly results.

Named after the Spanish explorer Jose Francisco Ortega (1769) and featured in the 1963 Film “Mad Mad World”, we ride this route at least twice per weekend to and from the Eastern mtns, canyons, and deserts …… and enjoy every mile!
